Done this road the last 3 years after a spending a night in Troyes which is well worth a stop, If you see a police camera sign, slow down. Within 500 metres, you will pass one
Riding on French motorways, which are quick and of good quality is best avoided in order to see the real France. Whilst heading to the Cote dazur recently, I stopped off overnight in Troyes having had 400k of motorway riding. I decided to take this road, the N71 rather than the A5 and A31 autoroutes. Lots of fast straights and some interesting little villages en route. A good road surface that you can really get some good speeds on. The only downside, whilst looking for fuel on leaving Troyes,I entered 3 petrol stations to find that they were all automatique and would only accept french credit cards, this delayed me somewhat until I found a friendly local who paid with his card and I gave him cash.
Good hotel at St seine labbeye at the Dijon end. Good halfway to the south of France
did this stretch of road in sept 05 its a lot more fun than staying on the motorway and worth riding
A good fast road, plenty of sweeping bends, couple of deceptive hairpins. A good way to get cross country without using the motorway Stay on the N71 for speed, take the D901 for a more scenic route with more corners, both good roads
