Rode this route in sept 2005 and was my first taste of the alps.left from briancon and hit first serious bend shortly after, views are great and roads have a good mixture, great fun to ride.
This is a main route border crossing from Italy/France and therefore carries a lot of traffic including lorries. Been through many times and always seems busy although it does have good views. Good drop down from Montgeneve to Briancon if clear.
Just a small taste of 2300m of altitude...Of course if your appetite grows, continue towards Barcelonnette and Guillaumes, to add to your collection the col of Izoard, Vars, Cayolle; all giants over 2000m with beautiful roads and breathtaking scenaries over the Alps. Perfect in summer to find relief from the heat, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 25°C. The whole ride to Guillaumes is about 160Km
