Did this ride in 2011 on my bagger with friends. Absolutely beautiful but use a dual sport type bike. Not bagger friendly.
To follow up on my earlier comment, I took my Standard 250 from Apache Junction to Lake Roosevelt. The scenery is absolutely spectacular from Apache Junction to about 9 miles past Tortilla Flats, and very nice after that. About 5 miles after Tortilla Flats, the road turns to dirt. Its ok for the next 4 miles, but after that, it gets pretty rough. I wouldnt do it again without a dirt bike/dual sport. But Ive never been on a more spectacular drive, particularly between Apache Junction and the deep ravine at 33°3129.87N, 111°1825.62W.
This is a beautiful route - Ive only gone to Tortilla flats on my standard motorcycle, but Ive gone to the end in a car. After Tortilla Flats, the road turns to dirt, and it can be very bumpy with washouts. Still looking to try it on a bike. The views are gorgeous, and 88 past the Superstition Mountains is wonderful as well.
Really nice road for a sport bike, lots of fun curves.
